Young adult novels are popular among readers of all ages. I typically gravitate toward YA fantasy—I love the idea that I can travel to a different world just by picking up a book. If you’re looking to escape reality through a YA fantasy novel, I recommend the following:

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

In this origin story, Catherine (soon to be the Queen of Hearts) wants to be a baker, but things get complicated when she falls in love with the court joker.

The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen

Bannen’s debut novel tells the story of life and death, as determined by magical riddles. The story is told from the view point of Jinghua, a servant to the prince who is trying to solve the riddles. Adventure unfolds as Jinghua helps the prince on his quest.

Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige

Paige’s take on the Snow Queen involves a girl named Snow who escapes a mental hospital. While on the run, Snow discovers a new world filled with secrets and betrayal.

YA fantasy novels are an excellent outlet for escapism. If you love YA fantasy or are just getting interested in the genre, then check out any of these books!
